This is Not Your Average Joe Coffee with Tim Herbel
Saturday Mar 06, 2021
Saturday Mar 06, 2021
On this episode I chatted with Tim Herbel founder of Not Your Average Joe coffee shop. Tim is from Hooker Oklahoma and grew up around family members who served the community in a variety of ways. But never coffee. Then he started Compadres Coffee as a white label roaster for local coffee shops. After entering some blind taste testing competitions and WINNING! The coffee they kept winning with was called "Not Your Average Joe". Tim was approached by a coffee shop in Midtown OKC and asked if he would like to take it over. The shop was their and they called it the name you see today.
Today is the grand opening for their Norman location! You should definitely swing by. The BEST thing about this company is that they employee disabled adults. (80% of disabled adults are unemployed) so this isn't just a coffee shop. It is a charity that happens to serve incredible coffee.
Grand Opening Saturday 6th March:
Norman location: 1001 Elm Ave, Norman, OK 73072
Midtown location: 1227 N Walker Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73103

This is Tori Beechum - Culture Coffee
Thursday Mar 04, 2021
Thursday Mar 04, 2021
On this episode I chatted with Tori Beechum owner of Culture Coffee. I met Tori a couple of months ago while recording with Vernon from GrpFly. Tori does some creative work as a part time gig but after talking I realized there's a lot more behind her camera. So we found time to dive into her story. Tori and her family ran a restaurant for 5 years in Oklahoma City while coming to the later years they were approached to open a coffee shop in a new apartment development near OU Medical. With no background in coffee but a vision for the area they decided to give it a shot. That coffee shop is Culture Coffee. One of the reasons for taking this leap was the history in the area and the potential to help raise this area.
Tori tells us all about their specialty coffee's, hiring the right people and building a culture around serving a product. For more information go to www.culturecoffeeokc.com or follow them on instagram here www.instagram.com/culturecoffeeokc

This is Wooden Hearts Boutique
Sunday Feb 28, 2021
Sunday Feb 28, 2021
On this episode I chatted with Amber from Wooden Hearts Boutique.
How It Started:
"I was at my Grandma and Papa's farm house in Henryetta, Oklahoma sitting at their old yellow kitchen table. It was a beautiful spring morning with birds chirping and the flowers blooming. No older than 6 or 7, I was painting in one of those 'just add water' watercolor books. As I finished the last painting I was extremely proud and held it up as the excess water ran down the page. I then hung each picture on the refrigerator and marked them for either a nickel or the 'good ones' for a dime. Not being able to contain my excitement, I ran to get grandma to show her all my paintings for sale. You know what she did? She bought all of them. I was so excited I had SOLD my art work. I was on cloud nine.
She had such a huge impact on my life and I would not be where I am today without her love and guidance."

This is Ban Nguyen - Jimmy's Egg
Thursday Feb 25, 2021
Thursday Feb 25, 2021
On this episode I chatted Ban Nguyen. Ban is from Vietnam and came to the states after the Vietnam war as a refuge with his family. Ban and his family came to the states and were adopted by a gentleman in Tulsa. This Oklahoman owned a gas station, took Ban's family in gave them a job and a way to make a living. After much hard work Ban's father was able to save up and buy a house. Ban and his families new life in Oklahoma had started. Ban went to school in Tulsa before being accepted in to OSU. With education being the road to success for his family he studied hard but also equally enjoyed his new life at OSU. New experiences, independence and the American college life. GO POKES! After college Ban struggled to find a job due to the economy at that time in the mid 80's so he went to work for his father in law Mr Lee at Jimmy's Egg. With no intention of ever working at a restaurant Ban started to pick things up and quickly got to work for his father in law. Soon he decided to open up his own Jimmy's Egg on NW highway and McArther near Bethany Oklahoma. That was it, Ban was now in the restaurant business. Since that day he hasn't looked back with 24 stores of his own and over 70 stores in 11 states Jimmy's Egg is a well known breakfast spot for many in Oklahoma. There is a lot more to this story and I'm hesitant to share anymore to spoil the story. You'll just have to listen. Thank you to Ban for coming on the podcast to share your story and to Mr Le for the legacy he has left in this state, may he rest in peace.
